Social & Emotional Skills with Horses A to Z

Updated: Jan 28, 2022

AWARENESS helps us better understand our environment, read body language, and regulate behaviors accordingly. And when your "partner" is 600+ pounds it's esp helpful to know how they're feeling! As prey animals, horses are highly attuned to their environment and everything in it. They use all their senses to be sure they're safe. We invite HorsePlay clients to practice awareness here as well.

For example: What do you notice about this horse? What do you see? Hear? Feel? Smell? Sense? Taste? Which of your senses do you rely on most? How is that working for you? What about giving each of your senses a chance to operate? What is it like for you to be in sensing, observation, or "listening mode"? How is the horse responding to your sensing, observing, listening? What's it like for you to be sensed, observed, listened to by others? How do you sense, observe, listen in your daily life?

What did you learn about Awareness from the horse today?
